The Ultimate Revenue Stream

The Ultimate Revenue Stream Have you ever felt that you are the reason for successes in your past companies? I heard an elevator pitch Monday morning from a lady who was responsible for an unexpected 2 million dollar contribution to the bottom line of her company. I bet she didnt get much for that. Step back a bit and consider out-of-the-box options. Ive blogged on having multiple streams of income. Many professionals I know have their own consulting business. I met a pizza shop owner who told me that they recover the startup costs within about 6 months of opening a new store (trick: they share space with a gas station). I know dozens of recruiters that worked for a huge recruiting firm and now work on their own. One way to avoid allowing your boss to be in control of your future (which usually means job changes every 3 5 years) is to own your own business. Then you can let your customers be your boss ( thats a little joke, which is supposed to mean youll never get a break, work longer then you ever thought possible, miss holidays and weekends, etc. ;))! The truth is, owning my own business (JibberJobber) has been so much more rewarding than anything Ive ever done. Its been a lot of work and there has been stress but its amazingly different owning your own thing. Theres lots of ways to do it heres an article from Peter Siegel, who is a business broker. My only advice in starting your own business is to go in with eyes wide open, be skeptical and cautious, hire professionals to make sure you are doing all the right stuff (and arent getting scammed) and then work hard! Cant Find a Job? Then Buy Yourself One! Many people think of getting a job or starting a business. However theres another avenue that is most overlooked: buying an existing business. Its a popular choice as more and more Baby Boomers retire. If they are already small business owners, they probably want to plan to sell their business. Otherwise, they might be motivated to be their own boss through purchasing a business that fits their business background. They often have 401k money or home equity to put down on the purchase. They often have specialized business skills they can apply. One thing I like about buying an existing business is you dont have to work out all the kinks in the business and you have immediate cash flow. I recently chatted with Carl Chapman, a restaurant recruiter who told me sometimes resumes come across his desk that dont seem to fit the jobs he is recruiting for. Sometimes they have a lot of expertise but its tough to find a job that pays them what they are worth. He suggested some of these may be ideal for buying a restaurant and applying their skills to improve it. A lot of people call this buying a job. I laughed as he explained the trait of a true entrepreneur. He said they are like someone buying a boat: their best day is the day they bought a boat and the next best day is the day they sell a boat. Small businesses come in all types. You can buy a web site that is already taking orders. There are lifestyle businesses like a golf course repair service in a beautiful location in a small town. These not only provide a living but offer a sense of freedom to make their own decisions and benefit directly from their business success. Peter Siegel is a small business owner and small business expert who started USABizMart. The 2 Ps and 4 Cs of Personal Branding - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

The 2 Ps and 4 Cs of Personal Branding - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I wanted to touch on what Im calling the 2 Ps and 4 Cs of personal branding. A lot of people have their own lists, but I felt the need to share mine with all of you. When I think of personal branding, most of my messaging revolves around protection and promotion. Its important to note that someone can steal your identity as we speak. Also, a lot of people think blogging and social networks are going to just get you attention, when it really takes hardcore promotion of these pages to become successful. The 4 Cs of personal branding revolve around how you build relationships with people in your network that fill up your world. 2 Ps of personal branding Protection: In todays wired web 2.0 world, you have to reserve your domain name, as well as your name on the leading social networks, in order to protect yourself. Your competitors could take your name in a heartbeat. Also, people who share the same name can take it for their own. The end result is that they will own your Google results and you will go undetected! In order to be successful building your personal brand, ensure that you protect your identity and control your results because that is how the world will see you. To protect your online brand you must be a content producer, not just a consumer. By generating content, you are filling spots in the top results for your name, so even if you get bad press, it wont show up. Promotion: Aside from protecting your personal brand, you need to get it out there. No one will know you exist until you start actively marketing and pitching your brand to others, either online or offline. Social media tools are obvious ways to get your name out there for no money, at the cost of your time. The problem that most people have is that they think that if you build it they will come. Listen, the only way people are going to see your content is if you show it to them! By actively promoting your brand, you are, in effect, creating a snowball effect. Things might start slow, but the more people who you about you, the better because they will tell even more people. 4 Cs of personal branding Content: A blog is not a blog without the content. Your content is the talking piece by which you can communicate with others. Think about itâ€"how are you supposed to meet someone and strike a conversation if there is no material there? Ensure that your content is appealing, original, controversial, and open for comments. View other blogs related to your subject, summarize them, link to them and formulate a digest post. Also, you can engage your community by offering “series” posts, where you give them information little by little. The best blogs are the ones that have access to information others do not, such as research reports or thought leadership. Comments: There’s no better way to attract new readers, brand yourself on other blogs and network than commenting. It is also a way of demonstrating genuine interest in other people and your interpersonal communication skills. By commenting on other blogs you are helping furthering topics that may just be dropped based on lack of comments. When other’s comment on your posts, comment back and use the @therename to make it direct. This is how you continue the conversation. Conversation: You may engage in on-blog conversations with other bloggers or readers, but the real power lies in off-blog conversations. As people list their email address, phone number and other modes of contact on their blog, it gives you the opportunity to further a conversation with them. That off-blog conversation may turn into a blog post or even a hiring opportunity. Community: With many comments and conversations, you are in fact establishing a community. If your blog is perceived to have a community that regularly adds comments, then you won’t just reap the traffic rewards, but you’ll have various word-of-mouth marketers under your wing. Community members help each other out, whether it is through blogging, content, or overall brand advice.

All Recruiters Are Control Freaks!

All Recruiters Are Control Freaks! Discuss. (NB. And more importantly, should we be?) As you read that, are you thinking “I resemble that remark!”, or are you sat there, shaking your head in dismay? I can honestly put my hand up and say that in all aspects of my life, I am a total control freak: for my birthday, I book my own “surprise” meal, so I know I will like where it is and I email suggestions of presents to my husband so I know that what he buys is what I would want! (Please don’t hate me, he doesn’t!) And it is the same in business. However, anyone in recruitment (regardless of sector or discipline) will know that when you are dealing with other human beings, there is only so much control you can exert over them. So I ask the question: Should recruitment consultants hand over the control to the candidate and client once the initial interview has taken place? I have always believed and operated a very tight ship when it comes to managing the process, particularly since I have been in Rec2Rec (10 years now surely I deserve a medal or the very least a gold clock?!) as when you are representing the very people who KNOW what you need to do to make the process work, you have to anticipate even more what could happen. The psychological process of recruitment fascinates me and actually when you are dealing with recruiters every day, I find it astonishing how subjective they can sometimes be when facing the recruitment process themselves despite doing that job daily themselves. I love my role of being the supportive guide as well as hopefully getting them the ideal role too. A large proportion of recruiters WANT and NEED me to be a control freak for all the obvious reasons: they are time-poor so need me facilitate and expedite the process on their behalf, clients also. They need my discreet approach and benefit from my knowledge of their sector in order to benchmark their choices. However, I had an enlightened moment very recently when recruiting a very senior director into a boutique business, as during the interview process, they STARTED SPEAKING DIRECTLY. This was totally with my blessing. In fact, when it came to offer negotiation, the client asked if they could offer the candidate directly. I said “yes”. Now, how many of you have just said “no way, that could have spiralled out of your control” or words to that effect? However, because I had managed the expectations of both parties beforehand, I knew the offer would be acceptable and that the candidate was going to be happy with the package being presented to them (by the way, said candidate DID accept and so we are all very happy bunnies now!). I am a huge advocate of people speaking directly. I believe it builds a relationship between potential employer and employee and I always say to my clients and candidates that my role is to facilitate, provide support and constructive feedback to both parties. My role is not to hinder the process and I am not saying that recruiters cause their own downfall but we have to TRUST adults to be able to manage their OWN careers too. I am not contradicting the enormous benefits of using a specialist recruiter far from it. What I am trying to say is that a good recruiter has to be intuitive enough to know WHEN to let the parties involved in the process speak directly and to learn to TRUST that their control in the early stages and DURING feedback is enoughlet’s face it, we aren’t physically sat there in the interview anyway, so in my opinion its only an extension of that, isn’t it? What do you think? Have you allowed your candidates and clients to speak directly at offer stage too or are you a control freak extraordinaire? Do you think I am barmy or naive to advocate this, or does this show that I am transparent and confident enough in my own process to know that when the time is right, these conversations can only work in everyone’s favour?

You Can Buy A Wide Range Of Jewelry Online

You Can Buy A Wide Range Of Jewelry Online Women love jewelry and that is no secret. They consider wearing jewelry as an affirmation of being beautiful.  And you can find all kinds of jewelry online, from pretty cheesy costume jewelry to high-end designer items.  While there may be a time and place for each of those, one thing is always true.  Theres always a constant flow of new designs, materials, and styles to meet every fashion taste out there. With the opening of ever more world markets, one of the most popular jewelry choices is hand-crafted pieces that include necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings.  Due to the unique nature of the materials used, each item is unique in itself.  While it may not be an exclusive one-of-a-kind piece youd see on a celebrity, theyre still unique.  You wont bump into anyone else with an item exactly like yours.  So in that way, its truly  yours and yours alone. Its As Unique As You When you think of designer jewelry, you probably think of super expensive custom made pieces costing thousands of dollars.  But when unique materials such as Roman Glass and even ancient coins are used to create modestly priced pieces, you not only get a unique piece of jewelry but also something thats affordable. Whats more, the variety in materials allows you to choose just the right items to compliment your outfit whether its casual, business, or formal.  And because each piece is both unique and of high quality, youll find it among your most treasured jewelry items.  And something youll want to consider including among your heirlooms. Why Wear Boring Jewelry? You surely have experienced those times when youre wearing an unusual piece of jewelry and gotten tons of complements about it.  Contrast that to a piece of mass produced items that either is very common or so poorly made that it breaks in a short time.  Lets face it, we wear jewelry to get noticed! Ready to shop  for some pretty new pieces to add to your collection?   Consider looking at some designer jewelry online.  You wont be disappointed.
